Join us for a frank and detailed discussion led by private equity professionals, to explore the impacts of Brexit on the industry, and to find out what steps ought to be taken before the March deadline. With particular focus on private equity operations, this panel will support attendees with key back office considerations ahead of Brexit, including dealing with concerns around fund domiciles and structures.

Discussion topics include:

  • How much of an impact is Brexit likely to have on the PE industry, and in what ways?
  • Are PE firms looking at March 2019 as a key date, or is the transitional period giving them some comfort?
  • Are we likely to see any significant shifts in the European PE landscape as a result of Brexit?
  • What steps are PE managers looking at to address the challenges posed by Brexit?
  • How is Jersey positioned in relation to Brexit?
  • What sort of role can Jersey play in supporting UK and EU PE firms and investors?

Speaker panel includes:

Andy Brizell, General Counsel, Asante Capital Group

Andy is a senior lawyer who has significant regulatory, corporate, tax and structuring experience in the closed ended funds space.  Andy is currently employed as General Counsel for Asante Capital Group, a specialised private equity and venture capital focussed global placement agent and prior to joining Asante spent seven years working at the Aztec Group as Head of Legal and Group Head of Depositary Services.  During this period, Andy also spent three years in Stockholm where he established and managed Aztec’s Swedish office.  Before joining Aztec, Andy worked in private practice in the City, the Channel Islands and in Bristol.  Andy holds a BSc in Plant Biology from the University of Durham, is admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales and is a Chartered Tax Advisor.

 

Mike Byrne, Chair, Jersey Funds Association and Partner, PwC

Mike is a partner and Asset Management leader at PwC in the Channel Islands. He brings together the firm’s offerings for assurance, tax and regulatory solutions to the asset management sector. Mike specialises in private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure and fund of funds. Mike has considerable expertise working in Europe and Asia, leading PwC’s service offering in the alternative fund space and is Chair of the JFA. Mike is PwC’s EMEA PE Leader and a member of PwC Global Alternatives Leadership Team.

 

Geoff Cook, CEO, Jersey Finance

Geoff works closely with governments, regulators, financial professionals and investors, to promote the Island’s award-winning finance industry, whilst highlighting legal and regulatory developments, as well as innovations in products and services that make international trade and investment easier to do.

Geoff joined Jersey Finance in 2007 with a strong career background in the London banking world, having held senior-level roles in wealth management and financial planning. Geoff is a Chartered Director, a Fellow of the ifs School of Finance, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Geoff is also Chairman of the Jersey Employment Trust, a locally registered charity whose primary role is to assist people with a disability to prepare, find and maintain employment in Jersey.
